Beast of Reincarnation Weapons
Emma fights with swords, a bow, and a crossbow, while Koo covers skills and utility. Weapons work differently from most RPGs: every katana has the same base damage, and what matters is the effect that activates after a successful parry.
How Swords Work
Every katana in Beast of Reincarnation deals the same base damage. Swords differ in their damage type and their weapon effect, which activates whenever you parry an attack. The effect lasts about 5 seconds, so a typical strategy is to carry several upgraded swords and swap them to match the current enemy's weakness.
Swords are upgraded with Amber at a campsite or at the workbench inside the Cleanse Walker. Eventually upgrades are capped until you raise the Walker's power by returning Generator Devices found in the field.
Best Early Katanas
| Weapon | Effect | Where to Get It |
|---|---|---|
| Sunrise Sword | Light of Dawn: each swing blasts flames and extends reach | Chapter 4, from the ground in the circle of Fanatic Golems before or after the Taurus Nushi fight |
| Bell Sword | Crushing Blade: increases knockback and break damage | Chapter 3, purchased from a Golem Merchant near Mountain Plaza Forefront Campsite for 5,850 Amber |
| Purity | Vampiric Blade: recover HP based on damage dealt | Chapter 2, purchased from the Ancient Golem Merchant for 4,390 Amber |
| Hazebringer | Caustic Touch: adds acid buildup to the blade | Chapter 5, in the Matsukawa Colony near a caged remains room |
Rock Paper Shotgun notes that most of the game's enemies are Golems, many of which are weak to acid buildup, which makes Hazebringer a strong all-rounder. All four weapons can carry the player through the game if kept upgraded.
Bow and Crossbow
- Zangetsu Bow: obtained in Subcity 1 early in the first zone. It adds real long-range combat and can bring down flying malefacts, hit high Amber crystals, and equip elemental arrows.
- Crossbow: Emma carries a crossbow from the start. It is not intended for long range; it pairs with crafted bolts, including corrosive bolts that eat through armor.
- Ammo slots: the bow and crossbow each have three slots for arrow or bolt types, which supports carrying a spread of elements.
Elemental ammo becomes craftable once you find crafting books. Some manuals automatically resupply ammo whenever you rest at a campsite, so it pays to equip the matching manual and ammo type.
Other Equipment Layers
- Armor: boosts defense, adds elemental resistances, affects enemy awareness, and determines how many Spirit Stones Emma can equip.
- Spirit Stones: accessories with minor bonuses such as defense at battle start, bonuses for hitting weaknesses, and damage reduction.
- Koo's Charms: one Charm at a time, identified at camp, with primary and secondary effects.
